When choosing bedroom decor many are drawn to blankets and sheets full of colorful patterns and bright colors, but this is not always the best choice. Solid color bedding can set the mood in the room just as well and allow a huge amount of diversity for future room decor changes. The key is knowing how to use sheen, texture, and variations of the same shade and knowing just what shade will really make the bed stand out.
When a pattern is placed on a bed it creates an inflexible anchor for all future decor unless the bedding is replaced. Patterns on the wall, curtains, flooring and in the other decor will clash with the bed. This leaves the designer with no other choice than monotone and often uninteresting surroundings.

The first way to make one tone hue sheets and blankets pop is to use what artists call complimentary colors. These are hues that are the opposite of the other key colors in the room. Some classic examples are red and green, blue and orange, yellow and violet. By painting the bedroom walls blue and using orange blankets and sheets can really become the star or the room.
If complimentary hues are too bold for an individual's personal taste then consider multiple hues of the same color. For example, a multiple hue blue bedroom may feature a deep, dark blue on the walls while utilizing solid light blue sheets and blankets on the bed. This type of decor is complimented best with neutral colored accessories.
Another way to make those one tone blankets and sheets stand out is to use materials with different sheen and textures to them. By using a combination of satin sheets, knitted blankets and lacy accent pillows a one hue bed takes on new life. The eye is drawn to all the textures and how the light plays off of the satin. The results are anything but boring.
Another one color option that really adds drama is a metallic. By using a solid gold, silver or copper color on the bed it gives the entire room a feeling of luxury. For maximum effect match the metallic tones with your curtain rods, lamps, overhead lighting, dresser knobs and door knobs for a completed look.
Patterned walls, curtains or throw rugs are so beautiful it seems shameful to waste it on the bedding. By surrounding the room with patterns and leaving the bed monotone the bed will stand out instead of blending in. Try picking a color out of the surrounding patterns that is not dominant. If the pattern contains red as the dominant color and smaller flecks of yellow, make the bedding yellow. It will compliment the red and the bed will really make a statement.
